1887 - The Pittsburgh Alleghenies play their first National League game against the Chicago White Stockings and win 6-2.
1889 - The Alleghenies are renamed the Pirates after dramatically signing (and effectively stealing) second baseman Louis Bierbauer away from the Athletics.
1891 - The Pirates play their first game at Exposition Park.
1901 - The Pirates win the NL pennant for the first time.
1902 - The Pirates finish the season with an amazing 103-36 record and secure their 2nd NL pennant.
1909 - The Pirates win their first World Series.
1925 - The Pirates win their 2nd World Series.
1948 - Bob Prince broadcasts his first Pirates game on the radio.
1954 - Curt Roberts becomes the first African American player on the Pirates roster.
1960 - During game 7 of the World Series, Pirates batter Bill Mazeroski blasts a home-run out of the park and breaks a 9-9 tie against the Yankees, resulting in their 3rd World Series win.
1968 - Three Rivers Stadium, the Pirates new ballpark opens.
1971 - The Pirates win their 4th World Series.
1979 - The Pirates win their 5th World Series.
1982 - Willie Stargell hits his 479th home run.
1990 - Barry Bonds becomes the first Pirate to hit 30 homers and steal 50 bases in a single season.
1994 - The largest crowd in Pittsburgh history attends the 65th All-Star Game Midsummer Classic.
1996 - A group of investors headed by Kevin McClatchy purchases the Pirates, effectively saving the team from a move out of Pittsburgh.
2000 - 55,351 fans attend the last ever game at Three Rivers Stadium.
2001 - The Pirates new stadium, PNC Park opens.
