The Royals joined the American League in 1969 and have gone on to become one of the most successful baseball teams in major league history. The Royals won 4 division titles and one pennant during their first 12 seasons. Much of their early success can be attributed to all star third baseman George Brett. Throughout his stellar 21 year career, Brett won three batting titles, knocked in 3,154 hits and batted an average of .305. 1969 - During the Royals first season, outfielder Lou Piniella won the AL rookie of the year award.

1973 - George Brett is added to a line-up featuring John Mayberry and Amos Otis. This is furthered by the powerhouse pitching of Dick Drago, Steve Busby and Paul Splittorff.

1976 - George Brett wins his first AL batting title. The team capture their first of three consecutive division championships.

1984 - The Royals win a division championship but lose the World Series to the Tigers.

1985 - The Royals win their first World Series.

1989 - Pitcher Bret Saberhagen wins the 1989 Cy Young Award. Bo Jackson proves he "knows baseball" with a season total of 32 home runs and 105 RBI's.

1994 - David Cone wins the AL Cy Young Award. Hitter Bob Hamelin is named AL rookie of the year.
