The Houston Astros Tickets Continued

1962 - Originally named the Colt .45's, the team plays their first MLB game on April 10th, beating the Cubs 11-2.

1965 - The team is re-named the Houston Astros.

1968 - Don Wilson strikes out 18 Cinncinati Reds resulting in a 6-1 victory on July 14th.

1972 - The Astros finish in 2nd place with their best record ever of 84-69.

1973 - Caesar Cedeno becomes the first player in MLB history to steal 50 bases and hit 20 home runs in successive seasons.

1976 - Caesar Cedeno sets a new club record with 58 stolen bases, earning his 5th sucessive Golden Glove award.

1978 - J.R. Richard becomes the first NL righthander to strike out 300 batters in a season.

1979 - Houston wins the NL West for the first time.

1984 - All Star Dickie Thon is taken out for the season after being hit in the head by a pitch from Mike Torrez of the Mets.

1985 - The Astros celebrate their 20th anniversary with a win over the Dodgers in front of 42, 876 fans.

1986 - The Astros win the NL West Championship.

1987 - Nolan Ryan leads the majors in strikeouts and ties for the lead with a 2.76 ERA.

1991 - Jeff Bagwell wins Rookie of the Year.

1997 - The Astros win their first NL Central title.

1999 - The Astros opt to retire the Astrodome but close the stadium by winning their third straigh NL Central Title.
